Excerpt
Things in this life go wrong: zippers get stuck, The car won’t start, hearts break, whole cries slide Under in earthquakes, planes bomb people dead, Trains run late, checks bounce, mosquitoes bite And the wind sighs, “Tough luck, tough luck.” This top, earth, whirs indifferent to you, To me. He desert sizzles in the heart Ice cracks in the mind and tides gnaw our feet. Today I watch a cold rain fall and ask: “Why did you leave? I loved you. What went wrong?”
