Description
The exhibition and book Japan: A Self-Portrait was planned by Cornell Capa, the original Executive Director of the International Center of Photography, as a part of the project JAPAN TODAY. The exhibition featured 19 photographers focusing on post-war Japan. The Japanese Committee, organized by Shoji Yamagishi, Hiroshi Hamaya, Jun Miki, Shomei Tomatsu, Ikko Narahara, and Ryoji Akiyama, nominated the Japanese photographers with final selections made by the Chairman of Japanese Committee, Shoji Yamagishi. 1979.

Nineteen photographers were introduced in this book (this exhibition). Hiroshi Yamazaki, Kazuhiro Narahara, Jun Morinaga, Masahisa Fukase, Hiroshi Kuwatani, Kichiji Kawada, Daisuke Moriyama, Taisuke Arita, Keisuke Araki, Miyako Ishiuchi, Haruo Toyama, Kishinari Ueyama, Masaharu Ueda, Kazunobu Suda Three, Hiromi Dota, Yuji Akiyama, Masaaki Yamamura. In addition, a presentation by Cornell Capa and Shoji Yamagishi and Ayako is written here, but the date is April 1979. Shoji Yamagishi committed suicide in July 1979, and this book is a valuable posthumous work and is also one book.
