First edition of Admonitions is Jack Spicer's final collection of poetry, published posthumously by The Auerhahn Press in 1974. One of the most influential poets of the San Francisco Renaissance, Spicer argued that poems were not invented but received. His ideas profoundly shaped generations of American poets, including Robin Blaser, Robert Duncan, and the New York School.
This scarce Auerhahn edition remains an important document of twentieth-century American poetry.
