Bruno del Favero worked as a mason, chauffeur, and landscape gardener before quietly developing a body of enigmatic landscape paintings in the basement of his home. Unknown as a painter even to his family, his work was introduced to New York dealers only after his death. His dreamlike landscapes have since become esteemed examples of postwar self-taught American painting.
