An emblematic set of eight Josef Hoffmann Fledermaus chairs, manufactured by Wittmann in beech with dark ebony lacquer and black velvet upholstery.
Originally designed between 1905 and 1907 for Vienna’s avant-garde Cabaret Fledermaus, the chair bridges the ornamental language of Art Nouveau and restraint of early modernism. Its continuous curved backrest recalls the open wings of a bat, or Fledermaus in German, while curved wooden rails connect the front and rear legs at floor level, demonstrating the sophistication of Viennese bentwood construction.
Black lacquered beech, black velvet upholstery.
