A High Wycombe armchair designed by E. G. Punnett for William Birch, produced circa 1900. Oak construction, woven rush, and fine ebony inlay place the chair firmly within the English Arts & Crafts movement, while anticipating the decorative currents of the new century.
Punnett drew upon the vernacular traditions of English chairmaking: tall uprights, broad arms, and cording.
